Scholarship, Leadership, Service

Mortar Board, Inc. is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for distinguished ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service.

Mortar Board chapters across the nation are challenged to provide thoughtful leadership to the campus and community, to create an environment of effective communication, to move toward a meaningful goal, and to maintain the ideals of the society. Each chapter has the autonomy to determine its own implementation of the goals, National Project, and resolutions and recommendations set forth by delegates to the National Conference.

Members of the Black Masque Chapter have been serving the University of Nebraska - Lincoln since 1905.

Recent Events: 2009 Mortar Board Gavel Exchange

6927_1137990172922_1322400069_30370368_665963_n.jpgRain or shine, the University Of Nebraska-Lincoln and University of Missouri Mortar Board chapters are game for keeping tradition alive.  The annual gavel exchange with the Friar’s chapter of Mortar Board from the University of Missouri on October 8th, 2009 is one both chapters will never forget.  Nebraska traveled to Missouri despite the flash flood warnings around Columbia.  Upon arrival, Mizzou welcomed the Huskers with open arms to celebrate our gavel exchange.  Even though the PA system at the game wasn’t working, we exchanged the gavel in the pouring rain with confidence.  Despite inclement weather, the ideals of scholarship, leadership, and service united two chapters in an honored tradition, which both chapters look forward to keeping in the coming years!
